Education : degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1962 at the University of Milan; University Professor in Clinical Medicine and Clinical Methodology.
Career : until 1981 senior assistant in Clinical Medicine at the University of Milan; from 1982 to 1988, head physician, Sant'Anna Hospital, Como.
From 1988 to 1998 head of department of Internal Medicine and Director of the Liver Unit at Niguarda Hospital in Milan.
At present (since June 1 1998) head of department of Medical Sciences and Hepatology, c/o S.Giuseppe Hospital in Milan.
Worked for 1 year period (1974) at the Liver unit, King's College Hospital, London.
He carried out studies on the alterations of the hepatic metabolism, the effect of alcohol on the liver, and particularly on chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis therapy; recent studies focused also on liver transplantation and treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma.
He published over 400 articles on hepatology in national and international journals. He is the organizer of an International Meeting on Therapy of Liver diseases, which has been held in Milan every three years, since 1989.
He is now coauthor of a Medical Journal concerning practical therapy published bimonthly on-line at the website www.Terapeuma.com.
